What this blog is

I have been reading a lovely, hilarious, insightful blog called Fugly Horse of the Day, for some time now, and I swear every time this woman makes a particularly strong point I think "Gee, that happens in dogs too!". So I was inspired today to make my own version. I have history in the American Pit Bull Terrier and American Bully so those dogs will be mostly featured, but any dog related WTF news I come across is fair game. Deformed dogs, stupid husbandry, stupid owners, bad breeding practices, nothing is sacred.

  2. Actually all the dogs you have posted on here make me feel sick, even the ones you say are good. They are all a very far cry from what a dog should look like and all are suffering from the consequences of someone breeding for extremes. Plus the cropped ears make me want to barf. You want to post against cruel practices to dogs, then post on cropping ears. Yeesh. This ain't no Fugly blog equivalent!

  3. I was recently at a Pit Bull fun show that included American Bullys, and was horrified by more the Am Bullies I saw. The decent ones, I commended the owners/breeders and told them to keep breeding quality dogs, and not for the unsound freaks...

I'm a fan of any Bully-looking dog, but too much of anything is not good, esp when it's a living being suffering from the cruel breeding for absurd physical extremes.

  4. @dreameyce Exactly. You can have a very thick massive dog without its basic skeletal structure being a trainwreck. Hopefully more people pick up on this, and understand the pain their dogs are in when they go to extremes.

  5. The big complaint I had at that event, were the disattached shoulders... bodies NOT supported by the shoulder bones, and instead dangling by ligaments, and tendons. Some of these dogs literally, could not walk without wincing, and tried to avoid moving.

I look forward to you branching out into different breeds. There's lots of things I'd love to snark, but can't due to my profession... I'm a professional photographer, and dog trainer, so while I can make slight suggestions, I need to keep my tact, even when I want to scream and weep. A total shame...

  6. @dreameyce (and this applies to anyone else) if you see something that needs snarking at, of any breed, please feel free to email me privately and I will put it up. I clearly cannot be everywhere and there is, I am sure, a lot of bullshit going on that I am not aware of. I will not reveal my sources either bahahahahaha

  7. Long time APBT and AB lover and happy to have found this site via FHOTD!

    Am shocked at the pictures!

I never knew they had a name - Am Bully. I just thought it was tons of crappy bred APBT bred for dwarfism. But they are actually calling it a breed?

    From somewhere on the interwebz:

"The American Bully breed was established in the mid 1990 s with the purpose of creating the ultimate family companion. The American Bully was created through years of selective breeding by combining the desired traits of the UKC American Pit Bull Terrier and the AKC American Staffordshire Terrier. The American Bully's origin's can be seen both on the East and West Coast of the United States, primarily in Virgina, and Los Angeles, California. Today the American Bully can also be seen, in Europe and Asia."

This isn't a new breed - this is simply the APBT bred badly. Ugh.
